Interview with Jade Foret

November 2, 2010

Matthew Vasey, MD

It was a pleasure meeting you during your last visit to New York City for work. I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to answer a few questions with me that I could share with our readers. I have a lot respect for your sharing some personal health related information, in what is at least a second or third language given your Belgian descent.

Dr. Vasey: How did you first get into the modeling industry?
Jade Foret: I was discovered at the young age of 13 and was fortunate enough to walk in the Armani show in Italy as soon as I began...I opened the show and it was incredible...I met him in person, he took my hand and told me "I can see in your eyes how much you love what you are doing and it's not every day I can tell this to the girls'...It was a huge inspiration.

Dr. Vasey: How do you balance health and fitness while working in the industry?
Jade Foret: It's very hard when you travel constantly and are in different cities all the time but I've been aware of a healthy lifestyle for a long time and it stems back to my family...my mom is a diabetic and I have had high cholesterol in the past so I've made a conscious decision to go to the gym as much as possible, do yoga and eat healthy!

Dr. Vasey: Has health and fitness played a significant role in your life from the start of your career or something that evolved over the years?
Jade Foret: It has, as I was saying due to my family and mom. It's also a direct result in how you feel, etc..

Dr. Vasey: What is your typical daily diet?
Jade Foret: It varies, I've eaten super healthy at times, juiced and done the low carb thing. But it does depend on where I'm at in the world travelling wise. I'll be honest, I'm not so strict with myself but I'm getting better and better!

Dr. Vasey: What is your typical daily and/or weekly exercise regimen?
Jade Foret: I've been working out as much as possible, from cardio to weights and stomach exercises, … the model workout!

Dr. Vasey: Are there health related causes / foundations that you are particularly fond of?
Jade Foret: There is a foundation called SOS Villages d'Enfants. It's a kids foundation that I have been dealing with. When I was 16 years old, I went to Morocco with them for a week. I made them smile and it was an incredible experience.

Dr. Vasey: How does media attention to health in the United States industry compare to other countries you have worked?
Jade Foret: Health is everywhere in the US. In Belgium we are just catching up, hopefully the rest of the world will be where the US is soon. They love those croissants in Paris.

Dr. Vasey: What is your advice for young women embarking or hoping to embark in a career in the industry?
Jade Foret: Work very, very hard you and you will succeed. Be patient ...

Dr. Vasey: What is one of your most memorable moments in your career thus far?
Jade Foret: For sure the Armani show!

Dr. Vasey: Where would you like to see yourself professionally in 10 years?
Jade Foret: In 10 years I would like to be a very popular model, and actress. I'd like to make enough money so we can help the children. Then, I can buy a house for my mom in Spain.

Dr. Vasey: Thank you again for taking time out of your schedule for NYJSM. I wish you nothing but continued success with life and in the industry. I anticipate since you have begun work with One Management, one of the premiere agencies in the world based in New York ... Given the age of 20, America is going to be seeing a lot more of you.
